Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) arbeitet bei Initech, einem IT Dienstleister, der Banksoftware für den Jahrtausend Wechsel vorbereitet. Er hasst seinen Job! Mit der Freundin läufts nicht besonders und sein Chef verdonnert ihn zu Wochenendarbeit. Kurz und gut, er braucht professionelle Hilfe:

Peter: So I’m sitting in my cubicle today and I realized that ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So it means that every single day you see me, that’s on the worse day of my life.

Dr. Swanson: What about today? Is today the worse day of your life?

Peter: Yeah.

Dr. Swanson: Oh, that’s bad stuff.

Peter: I’m sorry.

Dr. Swanson: Ok.

Peter: But is there any way that you, you could just sock me out so there’s no way that I’ll know I’m at work? Right here? Can I just come home and think I’ve been fishing all day or something?

Durch einen Zwischenfall bei der Hypnose erreicht er dann aber einen Zustand kompletter Entspannung und plötzlich sind alle Probleme beseitigt, er geht einfach am Wochenende nicht arbeiten, spricht die schöne Kellnerin an, sieht alles irgendwie entspannter…
